Engaging young people in drug prevention interventions presents challenges especially when the intervention is delivered within criminal justice contexts. As part of the EPPIC project we opened discussions on this topic at four ‘solutions focused’ workshops, held in London, Sheffield, Sandwell and Edinburgh.
A short report, synthesising the findings from the workshops highlights key messages for practice under six headings:
-
Adopt a strengths based / rights based approach
-
Clarify rules of engagement
-
Set goals collaboratively
-
Offer practical support
-
Offer flexibility
-
Develop trusting, honest relationships.
